Our History

The Ranch is 14 miles SW of Deer Lodge, Mt and lies in 2 counties– Powell County and Deer Lodge County

Mike and Martine Simpson have owned the ranch for approximately 25 years. The Simpson’s come from a family of ranchers (Valley Mills Tribune _ Valley Mills Cowboys) in Texas and have been in the Black Angus business for 30 yrs.

Ranch manager is Luke Davies.

The ranch is members of the American Black Angus  and American Paint Horse Association Capacity of ranch is 500 AU’S Cow calf operation

United States Forest Grazing Permit for 136 AU. The forest service permit borders the ranch for 3 miles on west side of the ranch

Ranch is comprised of alfalfa, cropland, native pasture and timber. The ranch’s elevation starts at 5,500 feet above sea level. The southern part of the ranch was formed by a glacial till.

The ranch produces enough hay to feed the cow calf operation plus hay for sale each year Both flood and pivot irrigation Man-made lake to store and provide water for the pivots

An old building: (Previous slaughter house) was well known in Prohibition Days as a place to play cards and drink moonshine.  Building still stands

Quinlan School house still stands- in need of repair.
